West Clarksville native Eric Jones, a Guinness World Record holder and Food Network celebrity champion, spent three days carving a giant gourd into an exhibition-style sculpture at the Fassett Greenspace on Main Street. The project, sponsored by Olney Foust Embser Funeral Home, drew large crowds downtown. Jones also hosted a community pumpkin carving contest on Saturday, with pumpkins supplied by Runnings and prizes donated by Green & Green Consulting. He returns to Wellsville on Oct. 20 for an event at the Moose Lodge, which requires advance registration.

The SPCA Serving Allegany County will hold its 32nd annual Theme Basket Auction, its largest fundraiser of the year, on Friday, Oct. 16, from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pioneer Student Union Center on Alfred State's Wellsville campus. The shelter is asking for auction items and cash donations. The Wellsville Creative Arts Center's Wednesday open mic has now run for two decades, giving musicians, comedians, poets and storytellers of every experience level a free stage. Sign-ups start at 5:30 p.m. and performances begin at 6 p.m., with each act allowed up to three songs or 15 minutes. Founder Andy Glanzman said the night has always been about giving local talent a place to share something they love, and regular performers describe the crowd as warm and attentive. Scotty's Common Table runs the center's cafe during the event.

Wellsville Central School District announced new spectator rules for home football and soccer games. Students in grades K-8 must now attend with a parent, guardian or other responsible adult and stay in the designated spectator areas, away from playgrounds, other fields, parking lots and the nearby hills. Bikes and scooters can no longer be ridden near the fields, and e-bikes and e-scooters are banned on school walkways, the track and campus. District leaders said the area around games has grown too large for staff to supervise students while also supervising the game.

Kayla Kalkhof of Meraki Salon and photographer Lauren of Gallery Guthrie are partnering on a pay-what-you-can back-to-school event for local families on Aug. 31 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Island Park Pavilion in Wellsville. Kalkhof will offer boys' and girls' haircuts and trims geared toward a fresh back-to-school look, while Gallery Guthrie will shoot a quick portrait of each child and deliver three professionally edited digital images. Organizers say the event is meant to be low-pressure and accessible, with no dress-up required and no cost barrier for families heading into the new school year. Shad Alsworth stepped down as Wellsville Town Supervisor just 15 minutes into the Aug. 12 town board meeting, ending a seven-year tenure in the role. In a resignation letter read at the meeting, Alsworth said the demands of the job had taken too much time away from his family and professional life, and that he no longer had the capacity to fully commit to the office. After submitting his resignation, he left the board table and took a seat in the audience for the rest of the session. Wellsville will celebrate the nation's 250th anniversary with a free community event on Saturday, Aug. 15, from noon to 4 p.m. on the front lawn of the David A. Howe Library on Main Street. The program opens at noon with costumed re-enactors portraying Benjamin Franklin and Betsy Ross reading the Declaration of Independence and reciting the names of its 56 signers, alongside a display of the Liberty Bell. Organizers describe the event as a look back at daily life in 1776, running alongside the town's regular Saturday Farmers Market at the same location. The Little Gem Gallery on Main Street in Wellsville has put sculptures by Glenn Zweygardt front and center in its storefront windows. Zweygardt, an emeritus sculpture professor at Alfred University's New York State College of Ceramics, works from his studio in nearby Alfred Station using steel, bronze, cast glass and stone, and has built an international reputation over more than four decades of exhibiting. The gallery sits between the Texas Hot restaurant and the Wellsville Creative Arts Center, and organizers say the display gives downtown visitors a rare close-up look at work from an artist normally seen in major sculpture gardens. The Wellsville Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Balloon Rally Main Street Festival on July 18, 2026, closing off Main, Jefferson, Madison and Fassett streets for a day of shopping, food and family entertainment. More than 150 vendors sold handcrafted goods, artwork, home decor and other specialty items, with hot-air balloon activity as a signature evening draw. Chamber Executive Director Bruce Thomas said the free, family-friendly event continues to grow each year and has become one of the region's most anticipated summer traditions.
