Village of Gowanda Hiring for Water and Wastewater Plant Positions

The Village of Gowanda is accepting applications for two full-time public works positions with benefits. The Wastewater Treatment Plant is hiring for a role covering routine maintenance, pump repairs, and confined-space work, requiring applicants to be at least 18 with a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid New York driver's license; that application window closes Aug. 21. Gowanda Schools Board Approves New Spanish Teacher, Nurse Ahead of Fall

The Gowanda Central School District Board of Education has approved several new staff hires ahead of the 2026-27 school year. Lauren Schraft of Silver Creek, certified in Spanish for grades 7-12 and in teaching English to speakers of other languages, joins Gowanda High School as its new Spanish teacher after previous posts at Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School and Global Concepts Charter School. Michelle Gilson was approved to fill a school nurse vacancy this fall, replacing Kristen Pagett, who resigned. The board also approved Sarah Glashauser as a school counselor and Cameron Nagel as an elementary teacher, both on four-year probationary appointments, along with shared athletic agreements with Pine Valley Central School for football, soccer and wrestling.

Gowanda's Historic Armes Block Getting $3.5 Million Makeover

The Cattaraugus County Industrial Development Agency approved tax incentives for a $3.5 million renovation of the historic Armes Block building at 1 West Main Street in downtown Gowanda. Developer White Haven Holdings plans to convert the property into ground-floor commercial storefronts with residential apartments above, along with space for a barber academy. CCIDA Executive Director Corey Wiktor said the project builds on downtown revitalization efforts already underway in Gowanda through New York Forward funding. County officials framed the investment as part of a broader push to support recreation, infrastructure, and downtown redevelopment across Cattaraugus County.
