Flash Flooding Shuts Down Route 19 at Centerville Road

Heavy rain triggered widespread flash flooding across northern Allegany County on April 1, 2026, forcing the closure of State Route 19 at Centerville Road along with three other county roads. The Allegany County Sheriff's Office reported that roads throughout Caneadea, Hume, Granger, Burns, Grove and Almond were heavily damaged, with several stretches completely impassable. Dispatchers fielded more than 300 storm-related calls within 24 hours, including a water rescue in neighboring Burns. The closure showed how quickly the storm overwhelmed rural drainage systems around Centerville and prompted a scramble by county crews to assess the damage.
