The Wellsville Rotary Club and The Arc Allegany-Steuben have kicked off their joint 2026 Cash Bonanza raffle, with $10 tickets offering repeated chances to win cash prizes across drawings held through September, October and November. Every ticket sold is automatically re-entered after each drawing, so a single purchase can win more than once over the course of the fundraiser. Proceeds benefiting The Arc will go toward its Green Machine athletic program, which gives people with intellectual and developmental disabilities the chance to take part in basketball, softball, track and field, bocce, dance and bowling. Tickets can be purchased by mail, phone or in person at The Arc Allegany-Steuben's Wellsville office.

The Friends of the Olean Public Library are holding their eighth annual "Read Between the Wines" fundraiser on Friday, Aug. 15, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the library on North Second Street. The evening features local wine tasting, food, live music from Alex Cole and a basket raffle, with all proceeds going toward library programs and services. Tickets are $25 each or two for $45, and $15 designated-driver tickets are also available through the library. Organizers describe the event as one of the Friends group's key annual fundraisers supporting the library's continued operations.

Olean's Common Council voted unanimously to override Mayor Amy B. Sherburne's veto of a resolution accepting a roughly $1.09 million bid from Tonawanda-based Patterson-Stevens to repair the city pool at War Veterans Park. The council had originally approved the bid on a 4-1 vote, covering work such as replacing the pool's original sand filter system and piping, filling in the small youth pool, and replacing the deck and portions of the pool lining and tile. Sherburne's veto called the council's plan "irresponsible," arguing the cost estimates left out required structural work, including repair and replacement of the pool walls. With the two-thirds override vote, the council cleared the way for the renovation contract to move forward despite the mayor's objections.
Little Valley/Communal
The Cattaraugus County Trappers Association is holding its annual Sportsmen's Rendezvous this weekend at the Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds in Little Valley. The show runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, with admission set at $5 per person per day. The long-running event brings vendors, demonstrations and educational programming on trapping, fur handling and wildlife management to the fairgrounds, drawing outdoors enthusiasts from across the region. Organizers have said in past years that the rendezvous also aims to introduce younger residents to the area's trapping traditions.
Franklinville/Schools
Four recent graduates of Ten Broeck Academy/Franklinville Central School received memorial scholarships managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation. Kierra Knobloch was a double recipient, earning the $3,000 Josephine S. Pepper Memorial Agricultural Scholarship, given to students with a background in FFA and agriculture coursework, as well as the $1,200 Kathy Jowsey Spirit Memorial Scholarship for academic effort and school spirit. The other memorial funds recognize graduates for community involvement, career interests and academic achievement. CRCF administers dozens of named scholarship and memorial funds for students across the region, with new contributions accepted year-round through its Olean office.
Ellicottville/Schools
Ellicottville Central School District has scheduled its Back-to-School Open House for Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., open to families across grades UPK through 12. The evening gives students and parents a chance to meet teachers, tour classrooms and reconnect with classmates before the year gets underway, and the district plans to provide a picnic dinner for attendees. Classes for the 2026-27 school year officially begin the following day, Thursday, Sept. 3. The open house is the district's traditional kickoff to the new academic year.

Alfred-Almond Central School District is accepting applications for a Maintenance Assistant, a full-time Civil Service position covering an eight-hour day for twelve months a year. The role pays between $23.35 and $25.00 per hour, with a target start date around Aug. 24, ahead of the new school year. Rather than a fixed cutoff, the district says applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Interested candidates are directed to send a printed application to District Clerk Debra Cannon at the district office on State Route 21 in Almond.
