Griffis Sculpture Park to Hold 14th Annual Summer Festival Aug. 16
Griffis Sculpture Park in East Otto will host its 14th Annual Summer Festival on Sunday, August 16, from noon to 6 p.m., combining live music with the park's outdoor art installations. The 450-acre park, home to more than 250 large-scale sculptures spread across miles of hiking trails since the early 1960s, uses the festival as its major annual fundraiser for the nonprofit Ashford Hollow Foundation, which operates the site. The summer lineup also included a guided evening walk in June built around Cattaraugus County folklore and storytelling. Considered one of the largest sculpture parks in the country, Griffis draws visitors from across Western New York to see works by founder Larry Griffis Jr. and other contributing artists set directly into the woods and fields.

The 183rd Cattaraugus County Fair opens August 1 and runs through August 8, 2026, at the county fairgrounds on Erie Street in Little Valley. Organizers expect more than 90,000 attendees for a lineup that includes a demolition derby, tractor and truck pulls, a monster truck rally, 4-H and FFA livestock shows, carnival rides and multiple free daily shows. Gates open at 8 a.m. each day, with the midway starting at 1 p.m. As the longtime host village, Little Valley sees a major seasonal influx of visitors, vendors and exhibitors for one of the region's longest-running community traditions.

Rooted in Nature Launches Forest School Program in Belmont
Rooted in Nature NY, led by New York State certified teacher and certified Forest School director Rebecca DePue, is opening a Forest School offering child-led, nature-based learning at its outdoor site in Belmont. The program lets children climb, explore, solve problems and gather around a campfire as a hands-on alternative to a traditional classroom. Families can preview the approach at an 'Explore Rooted' open house on August 13, where they can meet DePue and tour the forest learning space. Early Bird registration for the fall Forest School season is open through August 15.
